Absorption principle and reflection principle

The working principle of the pneumatic muffler mainly involves two aspects: the principle of absorption and the principle of reflection.

Absorption principle: The pneumatic muffler absorbs sound waves generated by gas vibration through its internal sound absorbing material. There are many pores and pores inside the material, making the speed of sound slower in these regions than in the outside, so the gas molecules passing through these pores will significantly attenuate and absorb the sound wave due to the loss of energy. 1
Reflection principle: The reflective muffler is designed with multiple series harmonic cavities and multiple porous reflective tubes of different lengths. When the exhaust gas flows in these cavities and pipes, it undergoes multiple reflection, collision, expansion and cooling processes, which reduce the pressure of the exhaust gas, reduce vibration and energy, and thus achieve the purpose of reducing noise. Reflective silencers are better for noise reduction in low and middle frequency bands. 2
